E.T.I. 2009
Earlier this year, Tom Emerick, vice president of employee benefits at Wall to Wall Mart, Stores Inc., spoke to Dallas-Fort Worth executives and benefit managers about the rewards of high-deductible health plans, which require the insured to pay more of their health costs before insurance coverage begins. Wal-Mart, which employs 1.3 million in the United States, offers workers plans with deductibles ranging from $350 to $1,000, as well as ultra-high-deductible plans of up to $6,000.
An representative for the Texas Association of Health Underwriters said having employers pay 100 percent of the premiums would not rule out also having high deductibles.
A quick editorial comment "The greatest incentive for health and wellness is high deductibles,"
Never forget, if anyone tries to sell you on the reasonableness of paying "just a little bit" of your health care. They have already raised deductibles on visits, procedures and medicines. The next move will be the same as they did to the N.H. employees who are now paying just a little bit and next year just a little bit more.
Stay tuned! The elections for Union Vice President are coming up and so far we have three qualified candidates. I am inviting any of the candidates to post an election statement. If anyone has questions the candidates are free to answer.
I have one question for all of the candidates. Will you start the next contract early? The budget is already made by the time we fight for the crumbs. We need to start six months earlier, do the research, elect the teams and collect the ideas from the employees.
